This post marks my annual entry, which commemorates the accident on May 30, 2005, when I sustained a traumatic brain injury after I fell 30 feet. \u00a0I have consistently written on the day of the “anniversary,” but I did not author an entry yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are a couple of possible reasons for this: One is that I work too much. \u00a0Yesterday, I was toiling away at an appellate brief that is due on Friday. The other reason may be that the accident consistently becomes less of an issue at the forefront of my world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Granted, physically, I will never be the same, though there are still minor improvements. \u00a0For example, last week, a judge saw me on the elevator, said that His Honor noticed that I walk with a limp [I like to call it a hitch in my giddyup], and asked me about it. \u00a0I told the story of the accident and remarked that, as a result, my speech is not perfect. \u00a0The judge countered that my clarity has improved in the few months that I have appeared in His Honor’s courtroom. \u00a0I was pumped to hear it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the years roll on, the emotional and physical wounds scar over, and the experience becomes more of a story about my past than an explanation about my present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The passage of time will not diminish the feeling of gratitude for family\u00a0+ friends, who never left me behind and dragged me through the most difficult of times when I wanted to feel sorry for myself, quit. \u00a0So, in no particular order, thank you: mom; dad; Bridge; Aunt Suki; my uncles, aunts, and cousins; my boys => Casey, Brady McKissock, Voner, Terry, Dell, Schmid, Pasc, Subat [though you wrote jacked up things about my hair], Inessa, Mia, Burke from afar [dude claims he was defending the country as a pilot in the Navy], Bridge’s buds; Mr. McCauley; nurses and docs at HUP and Bryn Mawr Rehab; Bill Orr, Scott Dillman . . . If you read this, and I did not include your name, it was not intentional. \u00a0Cut me some slack. \u00a0I have a brain injury!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Life is difficult sometimes, but it is a good scene. \u00a0I am happy and cannot complain.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
