Politics Sully 92 views

Are you kidding me?!

It seems that, as the years pass, the politics of presidential elections becomes more sensational and utterly embarrassing.

I am a registered Republican.  The candidates battling to earn the nod as the GOP’s candidate for president are hopelessly flawed.  It seems as though these kooks all stepped out of a time machine and stepped into 2015.  In doing so, they brought their decades-old, racist, prejudiced agendas.

Only a few days ago in France, 196 countries approved a historic climate agreement.  None of the Republican candidates commented on the environmental pact.  All of the candidates take issue with the reality of global warming.  It seems that their view is- if we do not talk about the climate deal, it did not happen.  I know, I know, Ted, the Earth is flat, and evolution is as real as the tooth fairy [similar to your chances of winning a general election].

Donny Trump called for a halt in allowing Muslims to enter the country.  This is one of the most simple-minded, prejudiced public comments that I have ever heard a candidate utter.  Apparently, dude’s history books do not include chapters on World War II.

Perhaps I need to broaden my horizons and consider this asinine policy: Trumper says that we should stop admitting Muslims into the country because of a few terror attacks claimed to be perpetrated by followers of Allah.  That’s fair enough.  Now, let’s consider other mass killings in the United States.  The killer of folks at a Planned Parenthood clinic was a white guy with a beard.  Let’s look beyond that; he was doing God’s good work;  The killer of a host of black people at a church in South Carolina was a young white male.  Well, that kid had mental problems;  Finally, what about the OKC bombing?  That maniac was a white dude as well.  Shit.

Perspective is an amazing thing.  I long for a moderate, someone vanilla, someone who may flip flop but will not incite burning of this country to the ground with close-minded policy.  It’s true- I wish Mitt Romney were still around.
