Lordy, Lordy! I am 40.
Yesterday, I reached a benchmark age–40. At first, I was somewhat bummed about it. I neither feel nor look [though gray hairs have invaded my sideburns] old. But when I assessed my current situation, I felt dismayed. At 40 years old, I am unemployed and without vast savings; I live in a small studio in Phila. and do not own a home or a car; I cannot run or see out of my right eye… The list goes on. In sum, THIS is not how I would have anticipated my life at 40 years old.
I was discussing these thoughts with a wise woman, and she responded, in part, “NO ONE’S life goes according to plan.” I needed that perspective to snap out of the funk.

The first 40 years of my life have been tremendous. I am supremely fortunate. My family is incredible. I have a diverse, AWESOME group of friends. My experiences–lifeguarding in Sea Isle City, living in San Diego, surviving a 30-foot fall and traumatic brain injury, graduating from law school, to name a few–are robust.
I am not satisfied. I will ensure the next 4 decades or so are as awesome as the first 40 years. I love life. I sincerely thank everyone who has played a role–no matter how large or small–in the story of Matt Sullivan. I appreciate you.
