Last week, 60 Minutes reported that the United States spends more than $300 million per day in Afghanistan. Wait … what? What in the sam freaking hell are we doing there? U.S. troops have been in that hellhole for 10 freaking years. Vietnam thinks this conflict is a quagmire.
The partisan kooks in Congress could not reach an agreement on cutting $1.2 trillion from the federal budget. Now, “sequestration” will take effect in January of 2013, and, allegedly, the Department of Defense budget will be cut some $500 billion.
At this point, I say- that’s fine. If the cuts force lawmakers and military leaders to rethink our deployments overseas, it is a good thing. Frankly, I am tired of reading about the construction of schools and roads in Iraq and Afghanistan. I’m not a cold-hearted isolationist. Ron Paul did not jack my lapper and bang out this post. America is in financial FUBAR. Rebuilding this nation’s schools and roads would be an extremely worthwhile national project.
I know, I know- What about entitlements?! The experts say that Social Security and Medicare must be reformed. I’m not nearly knowledgeable enough to offer a rational explanation on how to remedy them, though.
