An interesting week at work
The work week was interesting- filled with ups and downs.
On Tuesday, I represented a client at an evidentiary hearing to determine if the after-discovered evidence, which we provided, warrants the court to vacate the client’s sentence and order a new trial. The contentious hearing lasted for several hours. I absolutely held my own. I had not prepared for the hearing and was told on the morning of the hearing that it would be me handling the matter.
The judge held the matter under advisement and will rule in a few weeks.
On Thursday, a Common Pleas judge granted a Motion to Suppress, which I had argued two weeks earlier. The victory marked my first win of a case, which involved felony charges. It was an excellent feeling.
Unfortunately, the week was not all puppy dogs and ice cream. On Friday, a judge granted a [bogus] Motion to Revoke Bail. The client was very disappointed and disheartened. Both he and I were satisfied by my lawyering, though the outcome was not favorable.
I continue to actively effort to manage the stress of litigation. I understand that a stress-free career is unattainable. But I’ll be stoked when the good/solid days outnumber the stressful, gnarly ones. The situation is about 50-50 now.
