Thoughts on hockey
-Yesterday, as I was getting ready to go out, I watched some of the Red Wings v. Bruins game. I had a distinct feeling of missing goaltending. My accident has compromised my balance and coordination. Even if I regained most of those abilities someday, I highly doubt that I will ever play hockey as a goalie again because I have lost vision in my right eye.
I don’t know what it was about watching Jimmy Howard in net yesterday. For the first time in quite some time, though, I was bummed that I will likely never be a goaltender again.
The moral of this tale?- Don’t drink and drive.
-I do not like how Peter Laviolette has managed the Flyers goalies. Last year, he jerked with Bobrovsky, playing him and then yanking him from the lineup on an almost night-to-night basis. Brian Boucher, the backup, has made a career as a second-string keeper. The Flyers were not going to win the Stanley Cup with Boucher between the pipes. So, why was he in there?
The counter-argument is that the Flyers could not have won the Cup with Bobrovsky in the net. I realize that. However, “Bob” was/is the goaltender of the future. I don’t understand why Laviolette did not allow the rookie goalie to gain as much experience as possible, knowing that the final result would be the same, regardless of which keeper started.
This year, the Flyers signed Ilya Bryzgalov. The dude has not dominated thus far. However, Laviolette is jerking with the goalies again, as he did last season. The coach is too quick to pull Bryz. and then sit him for a game or two. It’s a bunk move. The Flyers are paying Bryz. the salary to be the #1 goalie. The dude should start strings of games in a row and should not be sitting unless he needs a day off or his play is bad in consecutive games.
Stop shuffling the goaltenders. Play Bobrovsky every 5th game. Sink or swim with Bryzgalov
