Judge Brett Kavanaugh
I think I’ve heard President Trump refer to the nominee for the Supreme Court as “Brent.” Anyway…
The hearing, which included Judge Kavanaugh’s accuser as well as the judge himself, was riveting. Ms. Ford’s testimony was credible and emotional. The problem is that Ms. Ford does not have any evidence to corroborate her testimony about the incident. That she does not possess corroboration does not make her claim any less valid. The lack of corroboration allows Judge Kavanaugh to deny his involvement categorically.
The judge’s denial was an emotional “circus” (to borrow his word). The judge began the statement with a tirade about the Democrats, blaming the Clintons at one point. The “Blame the Clintons” page was torn from Pres. Trump’s playbook. What– dude could not find a reason to blame Barack Obama??
I understand that the GOP members will support the judge. Without corroboration (and, probably, even with it, too), the party is too weak to evaluate the judge on anything other than a look at the President, who made the appointment. Judge Kavanaugh’s rage should disqualify him. This kook was nominated to sit on the highest court as an impartial referee. Yesterday’s act displayed zero ability to conduct himself in a collected and impartial manner.
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) embarrassed himself at the hearing. He went on a tirade about the Democrats’ effort to block the nomination because they wanted to hold open the Supreme Court seat. That’s interesting– the Dems wanted to hold the seat open. Wait a minute! That is precisely what Senator Graham’s party did in blocking the nomination of Judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court.
Stop patting yourself on the back, L. You don’t earn points for voting Yes on Justice Sotomayor or Justice Kagan. Those two jurists did not have a shred of controversy in their nominations. Judge Garland would have taken his place on the Supreme Court, but the judge was nominated by a president, who was black, and whom Republicans opposed at every opportunity. It was not, and is not, about the good of the country. The mantra is: What can I do for my political party?
The country is broken.
