Freeing Myself of the Shackles of Routine
The two cats, Ella and Jessabelle (not pictured above), hissed at each other early this morning as I prepared my coffee. These two clowns conspire to monopolize my attention and prevent me from focusing on anything but ensuring the two feisty felines stay a few feet from each other. I bristled and thought,
"I cannot meditate in the mornings, like I used to. And I worry that other areas of my life are jacked up because the consistency of my meditation practice has dipped to about 33%."
Let’s challenge this thought.
Even if it is a fact that I cannot meditate in the mornings due to interruptions, there is no reason why I cannot do it at a different time. I could practice mindfulness while waiting for the train before and after work. I could take a 10- or 15-minute break and meditate in my office.
My earlier exasperation was unnecessary. I can adapt and accomplish my goal by applying a growth mindset to the disruption in my routine.
