I spoke with a friend the day before the U.S. Presidential Election. We wondered aloud how people we know—rational, decent humans—could possibly vote for Donald Trump. And then the election happened.

The results unmistakably signaled that I maintain a minority view of the man and his politics.

I must summon the courage to engage my friends and family to learn about their beliefs and values with curiosity, not judgment.
