The Penn St. Debacle
The myopia of students, alums, and fans of Penn State is appalling. Joe Paterno’s own complacency dinged his legacy. He must be accountable for his inaction, which, while it may not be legally culpable, is morally reprehensible. Thus, he must never again coach at Penn State.
I am not judging the man. I’m not yet aware of what he did or did not know about Sandusky’s alleged conduct. However, if he had any inkling that Sandusky was involved in suspicious activity with kids, Paterno should have taken it upon himself to learn the truth. Instead, he merely passed the buck and took the path of least resistance. The dude might be a leader of men on the football field. His inaction around 1998 showed a complete lack of courage.
Mike McQueary is spineless. The dude, allegedly, walked in on an incident between Sandusky and a 10-year-old boy. Instead of beating Sandusky into oblivion, reports are that McQueary ran out and called his father. That McQueary still has a job is utterly unconscionable. This coward should never again be permitted to walk into Beaver Stadium or earn a paycheck from State.
